Another week has passed and SHVP keeps pushing forward and running races of all distances and terrain. Let’s check out what the team has been up to! Ashley Sherman ran the Belmar 5 Mile Race in Belmar, NJ on July 13 and finished with an impressive time of 44:31! The race is presented by the Goodwill Hose Company. Per the website, “Goodwill Hose Company was formed in 1901 by a group of young men called pinfeathers. Their first piece of equipment was a hose cart. Today Goodwill Hose Company houses two Pumpers and is one of three Fire Companies in […]
Summer is here and this week was busy as heck. We had teammates running 5k’s, 10k’s, 15k’s, 10 milers and even 100+ milers! Good lawd y’all; SHVP has been crushing all the miles and we are just getting started. Let’s get into it! On June 27th, the dynamic duo of Joel Capolongo and David Houston took on the Tom Fleming Sunset Classic 5 Miler in Bloomfield, NJ. This race has been coming back year after year. “Since the early 1980’s, The Sunset Classic has been a calendar favorite in Northern New Jersey road racing.” This race is fun and unique […]
Last week we met in Pittsfield, Massachusetts for the annual running of the Vegan Power 25k/ 50k Ultra. This is one of our teammates favorite races every year and many of use have come back year after year; this was my third time. The race director, Alex Bancroft, and crew put on such a well polished event it’s hard not to fall in love with it. With a smooth volunteer troupe and aid stations that are always stocked with all sorts of vegan goodies; runners are taken care of extremely well. This year one of our own, Marie Gryszowka, was […]
As SHVP looks for new ways to engage with our community, we talked about sharing our accomplishments via weekly roundups. As this is the first, it may be a bit raw but it will be refined as we move along. What we hope for is that by sharing our races and individual accomplishments, as team members of one of the largest ethical running clubs around, is that we can inspire others and or prove that being a vegan athlete (amateur or pro) it’s not as difficult as you’ve been led to believe. With that said, let’s get on to it… […]
What an amazing race! The fact that the weather was grumpy and ugly couldn’t dampen the camaraderie and love that was palpable all weekend long. Once again, SHVP showed up ready to compete and represent veganism in a way that was not only compassionate but that was fiercely exuberant. We towed the line with 3 teams of 7 runners: Team Seitan: Nate DeMontigny, Evan O’Brien, Kara Pellowe, Rachel Atcheson, Sean Bethell (Captain), Peter Nussbaum, Kathryn J. Five years. That’s a long time, but it feels like yesterday that we took a measly twelve runners from Saratoga Springs to Lake Placid, NY. This year, our fifth consecutive year of competing in Reebok Ragnar Relay Adirondacks, we took four teams of twelve runners (plus van drivers!) across the state. Some were veterans, some brand new to our zany antics and animal advocacy. WE HAD A BLAST, and this year was super special because all four teams raced so near each other. We got to see other teams and vans throughout the race, sharing laughs, photos, Snaps, and all […]
It’s been a couple months, but we’re nonetheless thrilled to report we took a whopping five teams to the Poconos for another incredible Reebok Ragnar Relay series! Race season is in full swing, and our strong-hearted runners spent the month of May crushing courses, earning PRs, and logging those final training miles for Ragnar PA. Spoiler: vegan donuts may have also been involved.
Our ragtag band of vegans had a busy April, logging lots of miles and posting a bunch of impressive PRs. Looks like some good training in there for Ragnar Pennsylvania, which is now only a few short weeks away!
