ADK 2016 has come and gone, and what an incredible weekend it was! With racers coming from as far as California, we had four amazing teams (see header pic) of runners representing ethical veganism throughout the night (including through a dairy farm!) and well into Saturday, as over 250 teams ran from Saratoga Springs to Lake Placid, NY.
Our superstar A Team took 3rd overall (preliminary results), beat out by two ultra teams (6 runners instead of 12), but took 1st in the “Open – Men” division (less than 6 women, so not “mixed”) – amazing stuff!!! Our other three teams scored the following:
(out of 277 scored teams):
C Team: 130th place
B Team: 154th place
D Team: 170th place
After the race we saw some incredible Spirit & MVP awards given out to people who went above and beyond on their teams, including an award given to Scott Spitz, one of our original superstar runners, for his inspiration and work way back in 2013.
After some sleepy travel back to Albany and showers, a large group of us met at Little Anthony’s – one of our awesome sponsors – for vegan pizza and treats. We caught up with each other’s personal lives and enjoyed some time off our feet. Everyone slept well that night, glad to be out of a van, but already longing for the next race…
Sunday was our trip to the Catskill Animal Sanctuary, our beneficiary for the 2016 ADK race. The majority of the team attended, and spent our afternoon with pigs, cows, chickens, turkeys, goats, and even a couple cats! As vegans, seeing animals that we work so hard to defend in a “natural” state is incredibly rewarding.
If you want a more detailed report of the race, some of the bloggers on our team wrote some incredible race reports – check them out for yourself!
