Race Roundup: Mid July 2019

Another week has passed and SHVP keeps pushing forward and running races of all distances and terrain. Let’s check out what the team has been up to!

Ashley Sherman ran the Belmar 5 Mile Race in Belmar, NJ on July 13 and finished with an impressive time of 44:31! The race is presented by the Goodwill Hose Company. Per the website, “Goodwill Hose Company was formed in 1901 by a group of young men called pinfeathers. Their first piece of equipment was a hose cart. Today Goodwill Hose Company houses two Pumpers and is one of three Fire Companies in the Boro of Belmar. They have raised money through the years with various fundraisers. These fundraisers have helped defray some of the operating costs of the Fire Company.” Way to go Ashley!!

Our resident crossfit/ weightlifting/ ultra running hybrid, Sam Hartman, also ran on the 13th. He ran the Firefly 50k at Alum Creek Lake in Ohio. In Sam’s words, this was “my first night start trail ultra! Got real muddy and real sweaty to finish in 8:07:22. Fun race and good prep for my next 100 attempt in two weeks.” 100 miles? You see how crazy some of these SHVP people are? We look forward to hearing all about it, Sam.

We have another race for the books on the 13th and two of our badass ladies ran this one. Laura Kline and Jaclyn Shockey took on the Atlantic City Vegan Food Festival 5K, which was obviously part of the VegFest there. Let’s have Jaclyn tell the tale, “Atlantic City vegan fest 5k was a great way to kick start the day. I also met a fellow SHVP runner who totally dominated taking overall for the females. I snagged 3rd overall female with a 6:38 overall pace which was faster than last week’s holiday 5k. Still room for improvement though. Congrats & awesome job to all the finishers!”

Last, but certainly not least is our solo race for the 14th. Steve Reddy, hardcore/ krishnacore legend, crushed the Boilermaker 15k up there in Utica, NY in a time of 1:19:04. I was in a van with Steve when he ran with us the first time at ADK and this dude is as humble as it gets but is a friggin hammer when miles are on the line. It’s great to see you here on the round up, sir!

That’s about a wrap for this week. Stay tuned because the summer is just warming up and the team has races aplenty coming up! We’ve got team registration coming up for Reach The Beach, our main race of the year! More to come on that for sure!
