Running Ragnar events don’t happen without the help of our sponsors. With each one of these posts, it’s our hope you get to know the awesome companies that support us and make it possible to represent veganism the way that we do. Whether it’s a title sponsor, mid-level or even in-kind sponsors they all play a part in making us successful.
We put together a few questions to ask each sponsor.
I’d like to take a moment to thank I HEART KEENWAH for being an in-kind sponsor and supplying our team with yummy treats to keep us going. I’ve been a big fan of theirs for a while and when I approached them about the opportunity I really hoped they jump on board; here they are.
Describe I Heart Keenwah in your own words?
Quinoa (pronounced keen-wah) is a South American ancient superfood known as the “mother of all grains” (although it’s technically a seed). It’s a complete source of protein (containing all 9 essential amino acids) – the same kind of protein found in meat and dairy. Quinoa is naturally gluten-free, low-glycemic, high in fiber, packed with vitamins and minerals, and has a high protein content – between 14-18%.Our love for quinoa prompted us to start making I Heart Keenwah quinoa snacks. From there, we’ve expanded into cook-and-serve toasted quinoa and quinoa hot cereal. All of our products proudly feature organic Bolivian Royal Quinoa as the primary ingredient, and we work hard to turn more people on to quinoa. Also, I Heart Keenwah’s commitment to Fair Trade Certification ensures that farmers make a living wage.
Why did you start IHK and what was your hopes in creating your own line of snacks?
IHK supports people of all diet diversities through quinoa based products. All of our products except the Aged Cheddar Quinoa Puffs are vegan-friendly. Our hopes was to get an amazing product, that the farmers of Bolivia pride themselves in, to peoples table. While providing a healthy alternative for consumers, we can also create a more stable living environment for these Bolivian farmers. It is not as commonly known as other seeds and rice, and we wanted to change that. Bringing awareness to the power of this product, so that people can benefit from all that it can provide is key. By having a Vegan, Non-GMO, Gluten Free product it only increases the amount of impact we can have.
Why is it important to support those in the vegan community?
Although we greatly respect the choice to go vegan, we personally are not. The greatest part of I Heart Keenwah is that you don’t have to be vegan to enjoy all of the benefits they provide. But if you are, they fit into your diet just the same. All of our products are also Non-GMO, and GFCO gluten-free tested and certified, making it even more available to all kinds of diet types.
